THE Department of Agriculture (DA) Region One is currently conducting validation and site inspection in Lingayen as the likely location for the planned 10 units of solar-powered irrigation systems, and 20 units of small solar irrigation pumps.

Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil confirmed that the DA Regional Field Office 1 is currently conducting validation and site visitation in barangays where the projects will be constructed.

The project can benefit 30 barangays in the town.

Lingayen Municipal Agriculturist Dr. Rodolfo dela Cruz said he had requested the DA to consider and examine possible areas primarily for the project.

The project, if established in Lingayen, would not only benefit local farmers, but will also boost Lingayen’s agriculture production.

The Solar Powered Irrigation System is seen to benefit the barangays of Lasip, rosario, Wawa, Aliwekwek, Basing, Dulag, Tumbar, Naguelguel, Bantayan, and Quibaol while the Small Solar Irrigation Pumps will benefit the other barangays.

Dela Cruz said the local farmers submitted their own locations to the team of validators which in turn will be evaluated by the Regional Agricultural Engineering Division.

The DA solar-irrigation project will promote the care and proper utilization of soil and water to further optimize the farmers’ harvest and improve their earnings.  (Ahikam Pasion/Philstar Wire Service/ECV)
