Bataoil starts clearing operations in public market
TAMPERED WEIGHING SCALES DESTROYED
STOP cheating households.
This was the clear message that the
unscrupulous meat and fish vendors at the Lingayen public market received from
Mayor Leopoldo N. Bataoil when he had 75 tampered weighing scales seized and
destroyed in front of the market itself.
Mayor Bataoil ordered the tampered scales smashed in front of the vendors to
show that his administration will not tolerate wrongdoings, particularly
deliberate cheating of consumers in the town.
Arnulfo S. Bernardo, market supervisor, said his office will strictly monitor
owners of the tampered weighing scales and conduct regular calibration of their
new weighing scales.
He reminded residents to use the two ‘timbangan ng bayan’ located inside the
the meat and fish section of the market to ensure they are being sold the right
weight.
After destroying the tampered scales, Mayor Bataoil looked into the status of the clearing operations of the Public Order and Safety Office and Lingayen Police.
The mayor earlier issued a notice to owners of illegal structures, extensions and stalls along public roads, sidewalks and drainage systems to voluntarily dismantle and remove these within 72 hours in compliance with the DILG memorandum circular no. 2019-121.
The mayor warned the erring vendors that there will be no compromise in the implementation of the order and the demolition and seizure of materials will proceed if they do not voluntarily remove their illegal structures.
He said the mayor’s office is always open for dialogue and suggestions to improve their lot but will not tolerate anything illegal. (Nora Dominguez)
