Pangasinan is still insurgency free

THE province remains free of insurgency activities despite reports of increased armed attacks in other parts of the country and threats of more by the New Peoples Army (NPA).

However, notwithstanding the peaceful conditions in the province, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office remains on full alert status particularly after President Duterte declared CPP-NPA-NDF as terrorists.

P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, community relations chief, said since the encounter of the PNP with the suspected NPA elements, in San Nicolas town last August, no more movements and activities of NPA have been monitored along the province’s boundaries.

Florentino said the NPA will have difficulty operating in the province because of the continuing patrols and preemptive operations of the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) of the PNP guarding the boundaries of Nueva Ecija, Nueva Viscaya, Tarlac and Zambales.

As early as July 2010, the AFP Northern Luzon Command turned over the internal security operations (ISO) to the provincial government to the provincial police and Pangasinan has remained insurgency-free since, Florentino recalled. (Nora Dominguez)
