SAN FABIAN–A computer on wheels, first-of-its kind in Luzon, that teaches various modules under the Tech4Ed project was launched in Barangay Mabilao this town last week was launched by Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia.

“We have to be open about changes (brought by modern technology), about how to live and how to do business so that we will not be left behind,” said De Venecia.

As part of his ‘Handog Ni CDV’ birthday celebration on Oct. 27, he partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to bring skills development and connectivity to all his constituents.

De Venecia provided two air-conditioned trucks he called Computer Skills Development Vehicle with eight computer units each that will go around his district.

“Most exciting are the digital literacy, social media proficiency, business and skills training, and English proficiency modules being offered, as well as marketing platforms for our farmer and Micro Small and Medium Enterprise stakeholders through CROPS and Lazada. Not to mention improved government services for the people,” de Venecia said.

He recalled that his mother, former Rep. Gina de Venecia, launched ‘Computer on Wheels’ for computer literacy and computer repair for out-of-school youths in 2012.

“Now we have a Tech4Ed center that goes around the barangays especially those who do not have computer, CDV vehicle will go to barangays to teach these skills,” the young de Venecia said.

Cheryl Ortega, director of DICT’s field operations office for Luzon Cluster 2, said Tech4Ed is one of the flagship projects of her department and partners with local government units.

She said it was De Venecia’s idea to transform his Computer on Wheels facilities to become Tech4Ed Center.

DICT has three major flagship programs, namely free Wi-Fi, Tech4Ed and digital jobs generation, Ortega said.

“For those people who do not have free access to the Internet can go to the Tech4Ed Center where a facility, a computer equipped with Internet connectivity, can address the four E requirements we address like Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship for Economic Development,” she said.

Most of their Tech4Ed centers are stationary in LGUs but this is the first-of-its kind in a province outside Luzon that is mobile, she said.
