San Fabian gets ‘waste-to-worth’ facility
SAN FABIAN—This town recently received a P600,000 worth bioreactor facility that will convert the people’s biodegradable wastes to organic fertilizer, thanks to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Region 1 and Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia.
DOST Region 1 Director Armand Ganal said a shredder machine, a component of the bioreactor facility will be delivered soon.
The local government will provide the infrastructure and the road network leading to the facility as its equity, he said.
The steered tank composting facility, positioned at Sitio Bisbisucol, Barangay Ambalangan Dalin, can process 80% of the 500 kilograms of biodegradable materials into organic fertilizer daily.
To maximize output, Ganal said segregation of biodegradable from non-biodegradable materials must be strictly complied with.
He said experts from Metro Manila will arrive to train personnel tasked to operate the bioreactor facility.
Ganal said De Venecia initiated that the project be given to San Fabian.
Meanwhile, De Venecia, who thanked DOST for the granting his request, said the facility is basically a “waste-to-worth” that will directly benefit the farmers.
“Eventually, if we become more savvy in our marketing, in our distribution chain network and value-adding activities, you can also use this to earn extra cash with the help of the San Fabian local government unit,” he said.
He added the facility will enable residents to eat healthier foods because the facility helps eliminate contamination and insignificant odor, while accelerating composting process.
“We have big dreams with Mayor Danny (Agbayani) for San Fabian, from modernizing agriculture to focusing on tourism, and others,” he said.
Ganal said Manaoag, another town under de Venecia’s district, also acquired similar facility. (Eva Visperas)
