PANGASINAN continues to be free of insurgents but elements of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) are sometime sighted encroaching on border areas in the east and west.

P/Sr. Superintendent Ronald Lee, police provincial director, gave the assurance amid reports of increasing terrorism activities by the NPA in other parts of country.

He said reports of encroachment by the rebels in the border areas in Pangasinan were made by Philippine Army (PA) patrols from the other side of the borders.

Lee said there is no cause for alarm because the rebels’ sanctuary is in the mountainous areas in the borders and have not been reported to move down to the lowlands.

He said police stations near the borders are reinforced which he described as “target hardening” that called for strengthening barangay intelligence network in addition to the reinforcement of PA forces in the eastern and western boundaries of the province. (Leonardo Micua)
