Dagupan traders to pay 10% higher in taxes
BUSINESSMEN in Dagupan will soon be paying 10 percent higher than their usual rate following the approval by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of the Revised Revenue Code of the city Wednesday night.
The ordinance was proposed by Councilor Jeslito Seen, chair of the committee on appropriations, after due public hearings attended by Lorna Calderon of the Pangasinan chapter of the Philippine Institute of Public Accountants, Melissa Mendoza of the City Accounting Office, City Treasurer Romelita Alcantara, Budget Officer Luz de Guzman, Legal Officer Victoria Cabrera and members of the media.
The ordinance amended, among others, Article 9, Section 115 of the Revenue Code of the City of Dagupan enacted way back in 2004 or 13 years ago which is now outdated.
This provision states that a proposed graduated business tax starts at P50,000 or more but not less than P75,000 will have the same rate as in the old ordinance but 10 percent increase will be imposed if the business has reached the gross receipt of P2 million or more but less than P3 million, which is from P16,500 to P18,150 per annum or 10 percent.
On the other hand, if the business has reached P3 million or more, the proposed tax is P21,780 per annum; P4 million or more but less than P5 million, the proposed tax is P26,070 per annum; P5 million or more but less than P6 million, the proposed tax is P26,812 per annum;
And, if the business has reached P6.5 million or more at a rate of 55% of one percent (1%), a proposed tax if gross receipts of more than P50,000 but not more than P400,000 isw 2% plus the excess will be computed at 1.5%.
Also amended by the Revised Tax Code is Article 22, Section 166 which increased the rate for using Shower Room, Article 37, Section 239 increasing permit fee on film making and Article 49, Section 278 increasing laboratory service fees on blood sugar from P100 to P150; and cholesterol test from P00 to P200.
Seen said the increase in tax rate in the city is already long overdue as many local governments in Pangasinan already increased theirs in the last few years. (Leonardo Micua)
