‘ROSAL’ is officially now Dagupan City’s official flower.

Approved last week by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Ordinance No. 0-585, otherwise known as “An Ordinance Recognizing Rosal as the Official Flower of the City of Dagupan”.

The ordinance was authored by Councilor Jeslito C. Seen, chairman of the SP’s Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee.

Rosal will be introduced to Dagupeños formally as the city’s official flower during the city’s fiesta celebration in December.

The SP took note that Rosal has medicinal value, aside from its pristine beauty.

The city council appropriated P50,000 for the propagation of Rosal by distributing seedlings to households in all the 31 barangays.

“Because of its medicinal value, the propagation of Rosal can provide added revenue and livelihood for the residents,” said Seen.

Dagupan City History Culture and Arts (DCHCA) chairman Dr. Gonzalo T. Duque pointed out that Rosal, described as a distinctive white flower, has always been the official flower of Dagupan. He said this fact is borne out in the book “Symbols of the State Republic of the Philippines.”

Duque has proposed that Rosal be used during official functions of the city government as an ornament especially when in-season.

Today, Rosal is abundant in Pogo Grande. (JCB_CIO)
