SAN CARLOS CITY–The city of San Carlos is showing the way in taking care of its more than 600 drug users that surrendered.

A reformatory house for surrendered drug dependents is now rising in San Carlos City and is set to be operational by the first week of October.

This was bared by P/Supt. Nestor Cusi, acting police chief, who said the putting up of a reformatory house was discussed during the drug summit hosted by the city government last week at the initiative of Mayor Joseres Resuello.

He said the reformatory is urgently needed as there were 610 drug users that surrendered in San Carlos City, at least 160 of whom are from indigent families, the primary target beneficiaries of the facility.

Each batch of 50 users (the maximum capacity of the reformatory) will be treated as in-patients for 30 days.

The other 450, Cusi said, are from well-to-do families, who can pay for costs of rehabilitation.

The activities for rehabilitation will include livelihood component aside from medical treatment and psychological counseling.

The San Carlos City government initially released P500,000 drawn from the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) fund and will be followed by another P500,000. (Leonardo Micua)
