POSO: Traffic in city improved

THE traffic in Dagupan City’s commercial district has improved as several experiments proved successful.

This was the claim of the new Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) chief Carlito Ocampo when he appeared before the Committee on Transportation and Public Utilities chaired by Councilor Alvin T. Coquia during a dialogue on the city’s traffic woes last Tuesday.

Ocampo described the different schemes he implemented since he assumed his new post in a concurrent capacity as head of the the City Action Service Team (CAST).

Among these, he cited the prohibition of all types of tricycles from entering the the A.B. Fernandez Ave. from the corner of Rizal Street up to the city plaza; vehicles coming from west direction can no longer counter flow going to the city plaza or the city hall; railings were placed in all loading and unloading areas for public utility jeepneys; U-Turn is no longer allowed at Arellano Street and all vehicles were instructed to use the U-Turn slot in front of Silverio’s; and business establishments along the stretch of Barangay Mayombo were given notice to refrain from using the road shoulder as an extension of their properties.

“Because of these, we were able to ease the effect of heavy traffic along the areas mentioned,” said Ocampo.

The city traffic ordinance is presently suspended for 60 days to give way to the ongoing traffic experiment being conducted by the POSO. (JCB_CIO)
