Dagupan retains crown as Festival of the North

THIRD CONSECUTIVE WIN

THE Bangus Festival retained its title anew as the Festival of the North, its third consecutive win, last Friday during the Festivals of the North competition, a special annual feature of the Bangus Festival.

Made up mostly of veteran streetdancers from Barangay Pantal originally representing Cluster 2 in the Bangus Festival streetdance competition, the host won the nod of the board of judges through their superb execution of neatly choreographed dance steps of fishermen harvesting bangus.

Mayor Belen Fernandez awarded the grand prize of P400,000 to the host Bangus Festival troupe which was also adjudged as Best in Street Dancing for another prize of P20,000.

The Festivals of the North was participated in by eight other festival champions from various parts of Luzon.

Bangus Festival first won the crown in 2014 when the Festivals of the North was restored in the Bangus Festival after three years of absence.

First runner-up was the Dinamulag Mango Festival of Masinloc, Zambales and went home with P200,000 and another P20,000 for being adjudged as Best in Costumes, plus additional P20,00 for being Best in Props.

Second runner-up was the Halamanan Festival of Guiguinto, Bulacan and was awarded P80,000 while Pamulinawen Festival of Laoag City wound up third runner-up and got P60,000 prize.

Adjudged fourth runner-up was Abel Iloco of Cauayan, Ilocos Sur.

More than 50,000 people flocked to the city plaza to witness the battle of the Festivals of the North that began with a streetdancing parade of all the participants at 4:00 p.m. (Leonardo Micua)
