BANGUS FESTIVAL KICK-OFF

THE Pantal-led Cluster 2 dancers walked away from the Gilon-Gilon showdown with all the cash prizes in their pockets.

Cluster 2 won over five other clusters of Dagupan villages by winning all the minor awards and the grand prize of P150,000 in the much-awaited Gilon-Gilon ed Dalan (Street Dancing) competition that opened the 2016 Dagupan Bangus Festival on April 8.

Other street-dancers that made up the champion Cluster 2 were from the island Barangays Calmay, Carael, Lomboy, Pugaro and Salapingao.

Cluster 2 represented Dagupan in the bigger “Festivals of the North,” another exciting event of the current Bangus Festival, last April 15.

Led by Barangay Pantal, last year’s Gilon-Gilon street-dancing champion as an independent entry, Cluster 2 pocketed a total of P220,000 for being adjudged as Best in Streetdancing, P20,000; Best in Props, P20,000; Best in Costume, P10,000; and Best in Showdown, P10,000.

First runner-up was Cluster 4 led by Barangay Caranglaan, is also composed of dancers from Barangays Bacayao Sur, Bacayao Norte, Herrero Perez and Mayombo and won P100,000.

Cluster 6, led by Barangay Tebeng, had dancers from Barangays Tambac, Mamalingling, Salisay, Mangin and Bolosan.

Other participants were Cluster 1 composed of Tapuac (leader); Barangay 1, Barangay 2 & 3. Barangay 4 and Poblacion Oeste; Barangay 3 comprising Lucao (leader), Lasip Chico, Lasip Grande, Malued and Pugo Grande; and Cluster V composed of Bonuan Boquig, Bonuan Binloc, Bonuan Gueset and Pogo Chico.

The street-dancing parade started at 3:00 p.m. from the city plaza towards Dagupan’s downtown loop and back to the city plaza for their respective focal performances.

Up to 30,000 people lined up the streets and later packed the city plaza to witness the street-dancing showdown among the six clusters that simulated the steps and movements of fishermen while harvesting milkfish (bangus) from the ponds. (Leonardo Micua)
