DCNHS students’ work featured in Kabuntatala exhibit

GIFTED students of Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) in visual arts were given an opportunity again to display their work in the annual Kabuntatala exhibit held last March 12 at the CSI Atrium in Dagupan City.

According to Emmanuel Toledo, instructor of the special program on visual arts, said Kabuntatala, a Pangasinan word for “dawn” (light is setting in), marked its 10th year this year.

Explaining the program that the exhibitors underwent, Toledo said most of their students do a mother-and-child as subject as soon as they learn painting, then proceed to create images of culture of Dagupenos.

Others paint using a photo while some create their own subject, ranging from abstract, semi-abstract or realism.

The annual exhibit is held to boost their students’ confidence in visual arts and students are required to be prepared for exhibits at least once or twice a year.

“Of all the schools in Pangasinan, only the DCNHS does this and among the schools in the Philippines, only a few conduct arts exhibits,” he said.

Toledo said his greatest reward is when the students return to thank him for exposing and guiding them in developing their talents.

He said he looks forward to the establishment of a gallery in the school that will permanently house the student’s artworks for the appreciation of students, their parents and visitors. (Tita Roces)
