RABIES AWARENESS MONTH

LINGAYEN— Owners of the 63 dogs that participated in the “Dog Fun Walk” apparently had as much fun as their pets while promoting “End Rabies, Now Na,” campaign of the provincial veterinarian office in observance of the Rabies Awareness Month last Wednesday.

Some received prizes for the first to complete the walk, the best-dressed pet, the longest bonding time with pet, the oldest pet, the youngest pet, and the best breed.

The “Dog Fun Walk” activity started at the Environment and Natural Resources Office and ended at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center.

According to Dr. Eric Jose Perez, provincial veterinarian, said the activity, aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership among the locals that start with battling rabies.

Perez said around 8,000 dogs in the province were already vaccinated through the provincial government’s mass vaccination program.

Meanwhile, Dr. Constancia Diaz, chief of Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Animal Disease and Diagnostic Laboratory, said 18 rabies cases in Pangasinan were already recorded this year.

Binmaley, San Carlos City, and San Fabian recorded three cases each while Lingayen had two. Urdaneta City, Sta. Barbara, Bolinao, San Manuel, Dagupan City, Binalonan, and Aguilar had one case each.

Diaz, urged the public to have their pets be vaccinated once a year since rabies vaccine are provided free by the government. (Johanne R. Macob)
