DAGUPAN YOUTH ORCHESTRA

THE Dagupan City government is set to hold auditions among children, aged 9 to 15 years old that have shown to have the talent to play a musical instrument, to select members for the city’s first generation of the Dagupan Youth Orchestra.

Music Consultant Pong Mendoza, a member of the Philippine Harmonic Orchestra, said the audition will be done every Monday at the Child Minding Center at city hall from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“The audition is open to all residents of Dagupan who have the talent in playing different musical instruments,” Mendoza said.

Applicants should accomplish an application form, attaching their birth certificate, 2×2 photo, a certificate of good moral character and a recommendation letter from his/her teacher, Punong Barangay or the city mayor.

The formation of the youth orchestra is one of the twin advocacies of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, the other being the training of young athletes, in a bid to showcase the talents and skills of young Dagupeños.

Ms. Fernandez said the orchestra will help nurture musical talents of children. Instruments and training will be provided by the city hall.

“When young children are consistently engaged in music in an age-appropriate and social environment, they acquire quantitative, social, emotional, physical and creative skills,” the mayor said.

The Phil Harmonic Orchestra will perform here on April 16 for free, together with the Balon Dagupan City Government Chorale. (CIO)
