UL Glowing Tigers lead local PRISAA meet

THE UL Glowing Tigers is leading in the ongoing basketball double round robin eliminations of the Metro Dagupan PRISAA Meet with a 5-0 win-loss slate.

The PAMMA Sea Warriors are second with 4-1 record.  AIE Green Eagles and CdD Blue Stallions posted 1-4 and 0-5 win-loss slates, respectively.

Last Thursday, UL Tigers gored PAMMA Sea Warriors, 71-67; and, AIE Green Eagles clawed CdD Blue Stallions, 86-70.

Should UL prevail over CdD and PAMMA wins against AIE, in their final assignments in the eliminations, on Tuesday, September 9, UL and PAMMA will face each other in a best-of three title series starting on Friday, September 12 and AIE and CdD collide in a knock-out game for third place on the same day.

A semi-final round will be avoided if UL wins on Monday, otherwise, the round shall ensue as UL and PAMMA shall have the twice to beat advantage and incentive and the winners fight for the title.

The Division Meet opened officially last August 1, at the People’s Astrodome, with Dagupan City Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, represented by Councilor Jeslito “Jigs” Seen, as guest of honor and speaker.

As in the past years, Metro Dagupan PRISAA, basketball is the first event, out of ten events, to be contested by four participating PRISAA member-schools: University of Luzon (UL), an original member-school since the revival of PRISAA National in 1990; Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy (PAMMA); Colegio de Dagupan (CdD); and AIE-C College (AIE).

Other events to be conducted in the local qualifying elimination Meet in the forthcoming months are team and individual sports: athletics, badminton, boxing, taekwondo, beach volleyball, sepak takraw, volleyball, chess, karatedo, and table tennis with the emerging and qualified champions to represent Metro Dagupan PRISAA in the PRISAA Regional Games set sometime in January or February, 2015.

The first place winners in the regional games will represent PRISAA Region I in the PRISAA National Games, scheduled, on April 12-18, 2015, in Ioilo City, venue of the same national sporting spectacle in 2007. (Philamer C. Celi)
