DTI to consumers: Check expiration dates of food and medicines

By August 3, 2014News, News Briefs

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reminded the public to always check the expiration dates of pre-packaged products and medicines.

Peter Mangabat, provincial director of DTI-Pangasinan, said products labeled as ‘consume before’, ‘use by’, or ‘expiration’ date should be regarded as not marketable after the indicated date because certain quality features become significantly impaired. Goods labeled with ‘best before’ or ‘best use by’ means the product may still be satisfactory for human consumption after this date but its best quality may no longer be guaranteed by the manufacturers.

Retailers in the province who don’t remove products that violate the open-date markings required by Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) will be penalized with fines and imprisonment. (PIA)
