THE city of Dagupan is a top candidate to receive the Seal of Good Local Governance Award this year when it got a passing grade based on the evaluation and assessment made by a committee from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

This was revealed by Dagupan DILG Director Rhoderick Dawis after Mayor Belen Fernandez and department heads satisfactorily met the crieria listed by the committee headed by Rhoda Soriano, team leader.

Assistant City Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Dagupan Lourdes Servito also sent to the committee the different programs of the city government in support of education such as the Children’s Congress, Wrappers to Pavers, ongoing construction of additional school buildings, improvement of facilities, “Gulayan sa Paaralan”, and distribution of laptop computers.

The team noted that Dagupan was ranked highest among LGUs in Region 1 that provided funds support to the local police. More than P4 million fund support was provided the Dagupan PNP.

Other activities that the team noted were the exclusive lane for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and pregnant women at the One Stop Business Center and the mobile library.

The Seal of Good Local Governance , which replaced the Seal of Good Housekeeping initiated by the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo aims to provide greater challenge to local government units by adding more criteria and requirements to qualify for the award.
