Orientation held for fish processors on seafood industry

DAGUPAN CITY – Fish processors in the city recently attended an orientation seminar on seafood processing, manufacturing and marketing in line with Mayor Belen T. Fernandez’s thrust to develop and promote the city’s bangus and seafood industry.

The orientation included discussion of elements of corporate planning, meeting with appointed contractor of common service deboning facility, meeting with identified bangus processing firms, and meetings with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Region I and Pangasinan.

It also included discussion on the industry brand ‘Dagupan’s Best’, entrepreneurial commitment, directions and guidance in hygienic and sanitary design and construction of the deboning facility, orientation on program components, activities and commitments and the discussion of national road map on bangus; harmonization with Dagupan Seafood Program.

On Monday, June 23, the city is set to receive from DTI-Region I Director Florante Leal and DTI-Pangasinan Director Peter O. Mangabat a check amounting to P800,000 as part of the three DTI Bottoms Up Budgeting  (BUB) now known as  the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting Project.

City Agriculture Officer Emma J. Molina said that the amount will be a big boon to fish pen owners, fish processors and fish deboners in the city.

“Ang equity ng siyudad is 20 percent of the total cost of the project kaya’t magiging one million pesos ito. This is the first step towards realizing Mayor Belen’s plan of developing our bangus industry,’ Molina said.
