THE Dagupan Fish port will soon be a reality under the administration of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez as a P40 million fund from the national coffer is now available for its construction.

The availability of the fund was confirmed by both Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 1 Director Nestor Domenden and BFAR National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center Chief Westly Rosario last week.

The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) is set to request the release of the fund.

The fish port project is in line with the implementation of the Regional Fish Port Program of PFDA that involves the provision and operation of fish port complexes in strategic fish landing centers nationwide.

The port will be equipped with facilities such as breakwater, landing quay, market halls, refrigeration and processing facilities, slipway and other related facilities.

Fernandez thanked the national government and 4th District Representative Gina De Venecia for the project which will improve the economy and the fishing industry in Dagupan City.

De Venecia sponsored House Bill 4445 that seeks the establishment of a fish port in the city. (CIO/Liezel Aquino)
