PANGASINAN DIVISION II, 2nd PLACE

LINGAYEN—Pangasinan II Division of the Department of Education (DepEd) came a close second in the 2014 Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet, just 6.83 points behind overall champion DepEd Ilocos Norte that earned 445 points.

DepEd Pangasinan I placed third with 383.5 points.

The R1AA Meet was held at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – South La Union Campus (DMMMSU-SLUC) in Agoo, La Union on February 24-28.

The rivalry between the top two schools divisions in the weeklong sports spectacle saw the neck-and-neck battle of well-trained athletes.

In 2011, Pangasinan II romped off with the overall championship, ending the 11-straight-year reign of Ilocos Norte in the regional meet. A year after, Ilocos Norte recouped the title. It was last year when Pangasinan II again became overall champion for the second time.

Pangasinan II topped the secondary division with 263.67 points followed by Ilocos Norte (218) and Pangasinan I (172.5) while in the elementary division, Pangasinan I (211) and Pangasinan II (174.5) placed second and third to top-ranked Ilocos Norte (227).

Host schools division La Union ranked fourth (285.25) while Dagupan City (238.5), which hosted the swimming competitions, was fifth.

Completing the overall rankings were: Urdaneta City (218.75), sixth; San Fernando City (136.92), seventh; Ilocos Sur (131), eight; Batac City (122), 9th; Laoag City (118), 10th; Candon City (108.5), 11th; San Carlos City (100.5), 12th; Alaminos City (74.92), 13th; and Vigan City (25), 14th.

Provincial Sports Director Modesto Operania and 5th District Board Member Danilo Uy represented Governor Amado Espino Jr. during the awarding ceremonies of the regional meet held February 28 at the Marcos Sports Center of DMMMSU-SLUC.–LVM
