THE Region 1 team that will see action in the Palarong Pambansa slated in Laguna from May 3 to 10 will include 33 athletes from Dagupan City.

The young players were members of the Balon Dagupan Team who performed remarkably in the just concluded Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet held in Agoo, La Union and Dagupan City.

Dagupan placed fifth overall in the R1AA Meet  on account of  76 gold, 58 silver and 43 bronze medals.

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez congratulated the city’s team when they paid a courtesy call on her last Monday and distributed cash incentives for bringing home medals for the city. She promised more if they win again in the Palarong Pambansa.

Of the 33 athletes, 18  came from the elementary division. They are John Louis Carane and Christine Joy Domondon who will compete in arnis; Jericho Gabrillo and Rosemarie Delos Santos, in athletics; Micko Kelly Balancio, Edmund Beltran, Raven Cortez, Israel Gacusana, Christian Allen Magno, Manuel Andrey Ober, Ron Daryl Corpuz, and John Vincent Mendoza in basketball;  Jhune Michael Sajonas in gymnastics; Sean Iverson Fabiana, Omar Dacurong, John Luis Miranda, Sophia De Vera, Marie Alexi Adriano and Janelle Lin in swimming; and Victor Meneses in volleyball.

The 15 athletes in the secondary division are Jasper Jupeth, Quiatehn Beverlyn and Pauline Joy Salazar who will  compete in arnis; Marcelino Guleng, Jackson Dacanay, and Kurt Lamparas,  in athletics; Marc Aaron Macaalay,  in basketball boys; Rica Mae Aquino, Rox Myca Tan and Judy Ann Abat in basketball girls; Fernando Mendoza in chess; Paul Andrew Rioflorido and Riana Casipit in swimming; Angelica Sajonas in gymnastics; and Glory Ann Escosio in volleyball.–LVM
