Pogo Grande wins ‘Belen sa Barangay’ tilt
BARANGAY Lasip Grande was awarded first place with a cash prize of P100,000 in the ‘Belen sa Bawat Barangay’ (Nativity Scene in Every Barangay) contest in Dagupan City.
Lasip Grande Chairman Rodolfo Siapno received the cash and trophy from Mayor Belen Fernandez and lawyer Liberato Reyna Sr., hermano mayor of 2013 fiesta during the Barangay Night on December 27.
Barangay Pantal headed by Chairman Julie Ann Perez landed second and won the runner-up prize of P75,000 while Barangays Mangin and Mamalingling tied in third place and will share the cash prize of P50,000.
Barangays Pantal and Mangin also won the special awards as the Most Creative and the Most Innovative, respectively with corresponding cash prizes.
The winners in this year’s ‘Belen sa Bawat Barangay’ were determined by a panel of judges, composed mostly of executives coming from Nestle Philippines, the contest sponsor.
City Nutrition Officer and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Leah Aquino, contest coordinator, said the winners were judged according to the uniqueness of their designs and portrayal of the humble birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem.
The ‘Belen sa Bawat Barangay’ contest was launched by Fernandez in 2007 then as vice mayor.
