ELEVEN-year old Caila from Bani has earned a spot in the national search for Exemplary Pantawid Pamilya.

As the representative of Region 1, she is also now being considered to stand as the region’s child advocate in the Regional Council for the Welfare of Children.

Now in 6th grade, Caila has been a consistent top performer in academics and leadership at the Bani Elementary School.

She dreams of becoming a civil engineer someday and is hopeful that she and her twin brother will earn scholarships to pursue their education.

In the meantime, Caila facilitates “peer teaching” for her classmates who are academically-challenged and actively participates in their community’s coastal clean-up drive held every 14th of the month.

At home, she also helps in household chores such as washing the dishes, gardening, getting firewood and washing her own clothes during Saturdays.

Being part of a religious family, Caila joins in the nightly habit of praying the Holy Rosary, goes to mass on Sundays and attends Bible classes during the summer break.

As a Pantawid beneficiary, Caila said, “Life has been better. We are able to buy school needs through the cash grants being provided.”

The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program is a conditional cash transfer program of the Philippine government for extremely poor households with children ages 0 – 14 years old. (PIA/DSWD)
