A SUSPECTED illegal drug pusher was killed after engaging law enforces in a shoot-out during a buy-bust operation conducted in Poblacion West, Asingan on November 27. His cohort who was unable to resist was arrested.

Killed was suspect Elias Sultan, alias Kadi, while Benito Monses was arrested and will be charged for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The suspects arrived on board a motorcycle each when they met the covert agent for the transaction, which went smoothly inside the service vehicle of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent.

When the agent declared his identity and the buy-bust operation, Sultan drew a .45 caliber pistol and a hand grenade while getting out of the vehicle.

The agent shouted a warning to back-up PDEA agents and members of the Asingan police that the suspect was armed just as Sultan lobbed the grenade and fired shots at them.  The grenade did not explode as the pin was not totally removed.

Sultan attempted to escape by using the thick vegetation as cover and again fired shots at the agents as they came close to his trail.

Sultan was hit by counter fire from the agents and after he was finally captured, brought to the Asingan Community Hospital but died while being treated.

Eight large plastic sachets of Methamphetamine hydrochloride otherwise known as shabu valued at about P1.05 million were recovered in the area.

PDEA Region 1 Director Adrian G. Alvarino lauded his men for their succesful operation.
