LINGAYEN–Approaching the end of his term on November 30, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Provincial Federation President John Christopher Arcinue, who sits in the provincial board, delivered his farewell message during the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) regular session on November 11, 2013.

In his privilege speech, Arcinue called on the SP members to continue the projects initiated by the SK as he maintained his stance that the youth group should not be abolished.

The scheduled SK election last October 28 was suspended by law with no hold-over capacity for incumbent SK officials while the Senate deliberates on whether to keep it as the political representative of the youth sector.

“One important goal of the Sangguniang Kabataan is to help young leaders work with the government officials in delivering youth-focused services to the sector they represent. It is also a venue for them to learn good governance by incorporating themselves in the programs and activities of those government officials who become their colleagues,” said Arcinue.

At the same time, he acknowledged that reforms are needed in the SK program but did not elaborate.

Arcinue, a university student of Entrepreneurial Management at the University of Asia and the Pacific while serving as SK head, said he has no regrets that his graduation was delayed for one year due to his duties and responsibilities in the SK federation.

“I believe that education is not limited in the classroom and what I have learned in the SK I would not have learned in the school,” said Arcinue as he thanked his colleagues in the federation and in the SP.–Johanne R. Macob and Dada Austria
