1ST DCNHS ALUMNI BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

BEHIND the hot hands of Abet Joson, Mamerto Patungan, Gilbert Villafania, Melanio Soy and Jun Baad, Batch ’88 handed Batch ’82 its first taste of defeat with a close and hard-earned 85-83 win in the 1st Dagupan City National High School Alumni interbatch basketball tournament at the Dagupan Astrodome on Sunday, July 7.

Batch ’82, coached by Bong Amado and bannered by top scorers Elvino Maramba and Chris Camara, fought on even terms throughout the closely-fought game but the breaks of the game ultimately favored Batch ’88, although bench strategists Rafael Daroy, Zaldy Dela Carcel and Victor Abule attributed the win to team effort.

The elder Batch ’82 players tired out and the game slid away due to a dip in the scoring percentage of topscorer, Elvino Maramba, while the younger Batch ‘88 had the luxury of a 5-man sniper team.

Mas marami sila kaya outgunned kami,” rued coach Bong Amado.

Prior to the game Batch ‘88 president and team manager Rey Caburnay was confident of a win as the team confessed that its goal is to win the championship.

Para maging memorable ang 25th year Silver Anniversary namin,” he said.

OLDEST TEAM

Meanwhile, the oldest batch in the category ‘80s, whose members are in their late 40s, is Hotshot Batch ’81 led by team manager Atty. Benizar Francisco, Land Bank Dagupan legal counsel, and team coordinator Vicente Resultay Jr. of BFAR Dagupan.

The team has two bench strategists Coach Cristino Gallardo Jr and Joni De Jesus but they have yet to find the right formula to make the team really hot with its 1 win-4 loss slate.
