Sual Shipping Port’s first phase completed
THE first phase of the Sual Shipping Port in Pangasinan, covering the 180-meter wharf along the Baquioen Bay where ships will dock, is now complete, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) announced.
Silverio Mangaoang, PPA manager, said phase 1 cost P100 million and was bankrolled from PPA’s financial share of the project.
The second phase, costing P200 million that will come from the provincial government, will be launched soon.
The second phase involves the dredging of the Baquioen Bay to enable bigger international seagoing vessels to berth.
Construction of the third and final phase, also costing P200 million, will be funded by the Sual municipal government.
A memorandum of agreement for the Sual Port was signed in 2010 between PPA, the Pangasinan provincial government led by Gov. Amado Espino Jr., and the municipal government of Sual led by Mayor John Rodney Arcinue.
All the signatories committed a total of P500 million for the project which is designed to be an international port and is seen to bring an economic boost to the province.
