PNP CHIEF CLARIFIES

PANGASINAN’s inclusion in the Department of Interior and Local Government’s election watchlist areas does not mean the province is a “hot spot”, according to newly- installed Philippine National Police Chief Director General Alan Purisima.

Purisima, who visited the region last Thursday, clarified that the list that also includes Ilocos Sur and La Union in Region 1, only means that the tagged places will get priority police action.

“These three provinces are not election hot spots. These are included in the list to be given priority police actions at an earlier time citing incidents in the past and in order to address all concerns including the presence of partisan armed groups and internal security to ensure peace and order in these areas,” said Purisima in his first trip outside Metro Manila as the top police officer.

While in La Union, Purisima led the blessing and turn-over of 15 XRM Honda motorcycles, six all-terrain vehicles, and one L-300 Mitsubishi van donated by Rep. Victor C. Ortega of the first district of La Union and the ceremonial turn-over of another 21 motorcycles from National Headquarters to PRO1.

This was followed by the presentation of firearms seized and the blessing of PRO1 firing range, Police Retirees Benefit Unit and Regional Communications and Electronics buildings.

Earlier, Purisima led the blessing and inauguration of the newly-constructed San Ildefonso Police Station building with a project cost of P5.153- million, the first since he occupied the top PNP position.—with reports from Eva Visperas and PIA-Pangasinan/VHS
