THE Maritime division of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Pangasinan recently acquired a new motorized banca using funds raised during the Bangus Festival “Takbo sa Karagatan” Fun Run last April 26.

Senior Superintendent Genesis Tolejano, PNP Maritime Group Chief Operations Management Division head, said the boat, powered by Briggs and Stratton 18HP Barracuda engine, is a big boost to the campaign against illegal fishing at the Lingayen Gulf and the rest of Region 1.

The motorized banca, 7.5 meters long, can carry six personnel with a speed of 30 knots.

The Maritime Group intends to buy a second boat once the remaining proceeds from the fund-raising activity are collected.

The fun run was made possible through the collective efforts of Regional Maritime Unit 1 led by Tolejano, then Acting Regional Chief, with the support of the Dagupan Christian Evangelical Ministers’ Fellowship (CEMF), CORPS Movement Foundation Inc., Adsense Inc., Dagupan Bangus Festival Committee, San Miguel Corporation and other private companies.
