LINGAYEN–A search and rescue operation is continuing for two fishermen from Bolinao town who were lost in the West Philippine Sea when Typhoon Ferdie lashed out last July 20.

The two were identified by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) as Rogelio Canayon, 35, and Levi Caballero, 23, both of Barangay Victory, Bolinao.

The two, together with four of their neighbors, set out on a fishing expedition aboard three fishing boats at 7:00 a.m. of July 20, ignoring gale warnings issued by the Philippine Coast Guard, coursed through the local government of Bolinao.

They were declared missing when they failed to return home in the afternoon of the same day.

Among the fishermen were Paron Caampued Sr. and his son Paron Caampued Jr. who were rescued in the afternoon of July 20 by a passing oil tanker enroute to San Fernando Port from Bataan when their motorboat conked out in mid-sea.

Another two, Teodorico Caampued, 60, and his nephew Robinson Cezo, 50, were rescued off Barangay  Pantoc in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur in the afternoon of July 23.

Both Caampued and Cezo narrated that when they ran out of gas and were blinded by the mist as a result of rains brought about by Typhoon Ferdie, they just rowed following the direction of the waves.

They were spotted by fishermen and policemen conducting search operations for wqthem in the shore of Narvacan.

The PDRRMC said the search for the two other missing fishermen is being conducted with the help of the Coast Guard and the police.
