Transport group hopes for fare increase with latest oil price hike

THE latest oil price hike in the first week of the New Year did not come as a surprise to the province’s transport group.

It said it expected it from the “greedy oil companies”.

Benny Aquino, president of the Alliance of United Transport Operators and Drivers of Pangasinan (AUTOPRO-Pangasinan), said his group can now only hope that the Land Transportation and Regulatory Franchising Board (LTFRB) will finally approve it’s petition for a fare increase this month.

The petition was filed by the national Alliance of Concerned Transport Operators (ACTO).

Maski labag sa loob naming magtaas (ng pamasahe) dahil may mananakay din kaming pamilya, wala pong magagawa dahil masyado nang mataas ang gasolina,” Aquino said.

At the same time, Aquino reiterated their call to the Department of Energy to continue its study on oil price adjustments and the opening of books of oil companies.

He stressed that any increase in oil prices affects not just public transport operators and drivers but the whole community.

Pag tumaas ang presyo ng langis, lahat tataas, lahat maapektuhan,” he said.

There are currently no plans for a transport strike but Aquino said if the LTFRB issues an “unfavourable” fare increase, the operators will consider it as a last recourse. (PIA-Pangasinan)
