DAGUPAN Mayor Benjie Lim assured that more investments will be flowing into the city this year, especially in the tourism industry.

“We have been trying to invite investors to boost our local tourism industry,” Lim said last week.

The Dawel River Cruise, he pointed out, will be turned over to a private operator. However, he did specify the terms of the possible privatization deal.

Lim said four points of interest can also be developed in line with the cruise, including a water resort, a fishing port, a kayaking zone and a zip line spot.

“Plus, we will market Dagupan as a seafood haven for people to know that Bangus is not the only fish you could eat here,” Lim added.

He is also planning to capitalize on the Dagupan special lechon and the Pigar-Pigar, both of which will be featured in the Bangus Festival in April.

HOSPITAL

The mayor also announced that he is pursuing the plan for the Mother and Children’s Lying-In Hospital, construction of which is programmed to start this year even if the city government only has a P20-million on hand, about half of the projected P40 to P50 million cost.

“We will ask some senators to chip in for it to take off,” he said.

The building of the hospital will start as soon as the site, currently occupied by the Juan P. Guadiz Elementary School (JGES), is vacated. He did not say where the school will be relocated.

Meanwhile, new nurses will be hired this year under the Barangay Registered Nurses (BRNs) Program to replace those who failed to pass the performance evaluation done by the City Health Office.

Upon completion of the hospital, the nurses will serve there for three days, with the two remaining working days to be allocated in the field. (CIO)
