City closely monitors ‘botcha’ meat

DAGUPAN city’s veterinary office has assured consumers that double-dead or ‘botcha’ meat would not enter the public market even at the height of the year-end celebrations.

City Veterinarian Fernando Banchiran said his office has been regularly inspecting distributors and the overall assessment of meat in the market shows that vendors are complying with rules set by the government.

Fresh meat sold in the market is required to have both the inspection mark and the meat inspection certificate.

Banchiran said the marks could be easily copied but the certificates could not be forged.

GO FOR PINK

He reminded consumers that botcha meat is slimy and sticky, and brownish in color unlike fresh meat which is pinkish.

Banchiran also warned buyers that meat that is being sold at a price lower than the regular market rate is usually double-dead.

Vendors found guilty of selling double dead meat will pay a fine of P1,000 for the first offense, P3,000 for the second offense, and will face a cancellation of permit on the third offense. (PIA-Pangasinan)
