2012 Palarong Pambansa set May 6-12
LINGAYEN—It’s about five months in the countdown to the 2012 Palarong Pambansa that has been tentatively scheduled for May 6 to 12.
Gov. Amado Espino Jr. said the dates were set by the Department of Education although he has yet set to sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Education Secretary Armin Luistro to make the schedule official.
Pangasinan will host the annual national games next year, only the second time since 1995 when the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) was built through the initiative of then President Fidel Ramos.
At that time, Espino, in his capacity then as the provincial police chief, was appointed to head the Palarong Pambansa Task Force.
“I was head of the Task Force Palaro last time being the police provincial director. Now, it is a different story because I am now the governor of Pangasinan and will be the overall supervisor of the games,” Espino said,
When Espino was first elected governor in 2007, one of his priority projects was the renovation and upgrade of the NRSCC.
Aside from the NRSCC, other possible venues for some of the sports events during next year’s Palaro are in Dagupan City and San Carlos City.
Towns and cities adjacent to Lingayen will also be tapped for the billeting of participating athletes, other members of the delegation and DepEd officials.
