City cites performers for waste management

AWARDS were bestowed to various sectors by the Dagupan government for exemplary contribution to the city’s waste management efforts.

Among those cited were personnel of the waste management division (WMD), local community groups, and hospitals for their efforts in strictly implementing the “No Segregation, No Collection” policy.

WMD Officer-in-Charge Teddy Villamil Jr. said the awards were presented a year after the city started strictly implementing its waste segregation policy.

Villamil said the awards will be carried on next year as he expressed hope that cash incentives will be given next time.

The awardees were Luis Vallejos, best foreman; Marcos Flores, outstanding street sweeper; Ernesto Vidal Jr., outstanding hauling driver; Ernesto Velasco, leadership award; Joselito Dizon, outstanding dumpsite personnel; Israel Nicolas, outstanding enforcer and inspector; Jaime Biay, sterling performance as dumpsite foreman; and Michael John Ubando, merit award.

Alberto Solano, Loreto Carrera, Nestor Fontanilla, and Oscar Torres received the “multi-tasking award” while Alma Natividad and Antonio Esteves Jr. were presented the a “pioneer award” for hospital waste inspection.

An award for best effort and practices were given to Barangays 1 and 2, Tebeng, Bolosan and Lomboy.

Barangay Herrero-Perez clinched the award for outstanding barangay for cleanliness while Region 1 Medical Center, Luzon Medical Center and Nazareth General Hospital were cited for consistent healthcare waste segregation and proper handling.

Communication group DeltaCom was presented a special award for program support.

Several officers of the 54th Engineering Brigade of the Philippine Marines, based in Camp Tito Abat in Manaoag, were also recognized for their assistance to Operation Zoomlion (named after the bulldozer lent to the city and operated by the Marines) to manage the dumpsite when the WMD’s heavy equipment broke down.
