URDANETA City–In his first State-of-the-City Address delivered last February 7, Mayor Amadeo Perez IV focused on the continued sound financial standing of the city and its development priorities.

Perez reported that the city’s tax collections increased by 4.37% from P525 million in 2009 to P548M in 2010.

Of the total collection, business taxes climbed by 11.53% from P51.02 million to P56.9 million while market collections increased by 7.29% from P35.5 million to P38.1 million.

The mayor said the increase in collections shows that traders trust the city as an investment center.

The city currently has a surplus budget of P63 million, of which P35 million comes from the city government and P28 million from the Urdaneta City University.

Listing accomplishments in infrastructure development, the mayor cited the construction of a 20-kilometer barangay road, 10 kilometers of farm-to-market roads, renovation of 63 school buildings, repair of 1,500 drainage systems, repair of the Bagsakan Market and the Urdaneta City Convention and Sports Center, improvement of sidewalks, and the sanitary land fill which is scheduled for inauguration in March.

Perez also said crime incidents in the city went down from 207 cases in 2009 to 179 last year.

Priority programs cover education and agriculture with a special education fund allotted for the hiring of more teachers and the launching of City Agriculture Office’s Farmer Field Schools.
