ASINGAN–The remains of the three Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Pangasinan who died during a fire that razed their apartment in Dubai last November 6 arrived Thursday night and are now back in their respective homes.

The three, who were cousins, were Ariel Soberano and Renalyn Luna, both of Barangay Sobol in this town, and Creslyn Sagum of Barangay Bacag, Villasis.

Their remains were repatriated to the Philippines on board an Emirates Airlines from Dubai.

The three remains arrived together and not separately as earlier announced to the media.

Sagum was actually found to be the documented worker while Soberano and Luna were not contrary to earlier reports.

Jun Soliven, a staff of Provincial Board Member Ranjit Shahani, said it was Consul General Benito Valeriano and Marites Bautista, a representative of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) based in Dubai, who facilitated the repatriation of the three.

Soliven said that only Sagum’s kin can get financial benefits from OWWA unless it can be proven that the other two entered Dubai legally.

The relatives of the OFWs, together with Shahani, received the caskets at the NAIA.

Another cousin of the three, Reynald Luna, survived the fire and is now recuperating in a Dubai hospital, said Valeriano.

All four were working in a hotel where they constructed a makeshift living quarters on the fifth floor was razed down by the fire.

The relatives of the victims thanked the Philippine consulate in Dubai, OWWA and Shahani for helping expedite the repatriation of the bodies.—LM
