LINGAYEN–School district supervisors from around the country, who gathered here on November 24, were called upon to strengthen their role as frontline managers of the educational system at the community level.

“The future of our youth and our country is in your hands, and the choice of a better future lies in your hands,” said Governor Amado Espino, Jr. in a speech delivered by provincial administrator Raffy Baraan to some 600 district supervisors during the opening of the 9th Annual National Convention of the Philippine Schools District Supervisors’ Association (PSDSA) at the Sison Auditorium here.

The convention’s theme, “Instructional Leadership: A Challenge to the District Supervisor in the 21st Century”, said Espino, is very fitting since instructional leadership is the basic role and a challenge for district supervisors.

He also stressed that “elementary education is the most important component of a person’s being,” adding that “it is elementary education that determines the quality of the adult person.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Ligaya Soledad Miguel, regional director for the Department of Education, called on the district supervisors to hold command and earn the respect of parents, students and the people being the highest DepEd officer in their municipalities through honest performance of duties and responsibilities.
