THE GAB (Gina de Venecia, Alipio Fernandez Jr. and Belen Fernandez) team has sent its volunteers out to the streets of Dagupan on Thursday to start removing and tearing down their own campaign posters that were placed indiscriminately by their supporters in areas prohibited by the Commission on Election.

The team responded to the directive of City Election Officer Remarque Ravanzo to remove their campaign posters that were placed in areas outside the designated common poster areas.

Ravanzo had formally advised all candidates to voluntarily remove their campaign posters that are outside designated common poster areas and the GAB team was the first to respond.

He expressed hope that other candidates will heed his call to avoid legal issues pertaining to the rules on propaganda materials.

The Comelec has warned that failure of candidates to remove their illegally posted materials 3 days upon receipt of the notices will lead to legal action against them.

The common poster areas include the city plazas, public markets, private properties and barangay centers.

Ravanzo said his office will also undertake its own Operation Baklas despite his office’s lack of manpower.

He also warned candidates whose names have been painted on walls, sidewalks, streets and bridges that they are legally liable if they do not remove these. The prohibition is stated in Resolution 8758.

“We will report the violations to our legal department,” he added.

At the same time, City Information Officer Ryan Ravanzo, who coordinated the removal of posters of Mayor Fernandez, said the clean up is also part of the overall preparation for the Dagupan Bangus Festival.

He said the city government is doing everything it can “to make the city a more pleasing to the eye” in preparation for the expected influx of thousands of visitors.–LM
