LINGAYEN–Former President Fidel V. Ramos, the only Pangasinense so far who became head of the Philippines, will be the guest of honor and speaker during the maiden celebration of the founding anniversary of Pangasinan on April 5.

Pangasinan will celebrate its founding day for the first time this year after a research and study committee determined the founding date of Pangasinan as April April 5, 1580.

A provincial ordinance declares April 5 as official public holiday in Pangasinan.

Preparations are underway for the celebration, which will feature the groundbreaking rite for the proposed Lingayen Eco-Tourism Zone and the inauguration of the newly refurbished Sison Auditorium.

Atty. Gonzalo Duque, head of the research and study committee that has been named chair of the celebration by Governor Amado Espino Jr.

Ramos, who turned 82 this year, continues to be an active citizen and an outspoken critic.

Ten years after he finished his term as President, Ramos says he refuses to be “tired even while retired” and wants to continue to be “a reformer despite being a former President”.

Ramos currently chairs his Ramos Peace and Development Foundation (RPDEV) as well as the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), an intellectual resource center based in Beijing founded by 28 Asian countries.—LM
