BINALONAN Mayor Ramon Guico Jr., a senatorial candidate in the May 10 election, is unperturbed by his blood ties with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

A nationwide survey conducted by private firm Pulse Asia, Inc. last month indicate that 74% of Filipinos will not vote for candidates endorsed by Arroyo.

“Why should I hide that truth that I am close to her? The mayors know this and yet they’re still supporting me,” said Guico, president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP).

Guico, a cousin of the President, said he is proud to say he is “close” to her.

“I am very proud to say that we are cousins,” he added.

Guico also said he is confident of winning a senatorial seat with the help of mayors around the country who have pledged to support him regardless of political party affiliations.

“I have already talked to them, from Tawi-tawi to Aparri and most of them are supporting me so I am very confident,” he added.

Asked about the situation of the administration party’s presidential bet, Gilbert Teodoro, Guico said, “I can speak only for myself.”#
