ROSALES–President Gloria Arroyo was in town Wednesday to check on the ongoing repairs of dikes along the Agno River that were damaged by Typhoon “Pepeng” in October last year.

Engr. Phillip Menez, outgoing project director of the Agno River Flood Control System, said emergency work on the breached dikes amounting to P127.33 million is already funded.

Four of the 13 breached sections of the dikes, measuring four meters wide and five meters tall, have already been repaired, Menez added.

Governor Amado Espino Jr., in a brief speech to welcome the President, thanked her for the national government’s assistance in the rebuilding of the damaged infrastructures.

Other breached sections are located in Tumana East here, Artacho in Sison, Sto. Domingo in Sto. Tomas, Lipay, Puelay and Caramutan in Villasis, Bacnono in Bayambang, Don Montano in Umingan, Casantamarian and Bantog in San Quintin.

Rosales Mayor Ricardo Revita said he will ask the President for a permanent solution for the rehabilitation of the destroyed dikes to enable it to effectively contain excess water released from the San Roque Dam.#
