FESTIVITIES for the Dagupan Bangus Festival 2010 will proceed as scheduled on April 16 to May 1 this year despite the May 10 election.

Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, appointed anew as executive chairperson for the event, said preparations are already underway and she has started meeting with different groups that will help organize the activities.

The vice mayor already directed Supt. Mariano Verzosa, chief of police of Dagupan, to prepare plans that will ensure smooth traffic flow and improve safety and welfare of merrymakers.

Fernandez said this year’s Bangus Festival may not be as grand as last year’s but it will still be fun-filled.

Among the events that will be retained are the Gilon-Gilon Dancing Festival, the Bangus Rodeo, Festivals of the North, “Pigar-Pigar” Festival, Halo-Halo Festival, and the Bangusan Street Party along Jose R. De Venecia Expressway Extension.

Fernandez said more preparations will be made for the Bangusan Street Party, which is expected to draw more than half a million people crowd.

The street party features famous bands both from the province and Metro Manila.

Officials of Milpitas City in California, USA, headed by Mayor Robert Livengood, are expected to attend as official guests of the city.—LM
