THE Lyceum-Northwestern University Dukes, after having won all its games in the elimination round of the Private Schools Athletic Association-Universities Colleges Athletic Association of Pangasinan (PRISAA-UCAAP) inter-collegiate basketball championship, is set to face last year’s UCAAP champion, Pan Pacific University North Philippines in a best-of-three series.

Marcelito Novales, LNU Dukes manager, said it was the first time in the history of the tournament, also called Mayor Al Fernandez Cup that a team defeated all its opponents in the elimination round.

“We are proud of our boys. They really worked very hard,” Novales said.

This year’s tournament was participated in by nine teams from the different colleges and universities in the province, led by PRISAA defending champion University of Luzon Golden Tigers.

LNU president Gonzalo Duque expressed elation that his team will be playing in the championship games, especially because his players are all homegrown talents.

“I had always believed in the capability of Pangasinan athletes,” Duque said.

Other teams that saw action in the league were AIE Commerce College, Colegio de Dagupan, Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy, Pangasinan Institute of Marine Studies and Technology, AMA Computer School, Pangasinan State University and University of Pangasinan.

The schedule of the championship games has yet to be finalized. —LM
