When the public furor over the news about P1 million dinner in New York that President Gloria Arroyo and her entourage partook of during their recent trip to the United States, Malacañang Palace decided to hit back at the media.

But Third District Rep. Ma. Rachel Arenas, a frequent travel companion of President Gloria Arroyo, would rather cite the work ethics of the country’s chief in defending against her critics and pointed to the identity of the real host.

Arenas said in a phone interview over Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan that she admires Mrs. Arroyo for being a workaholic and expressed her lament that “nakakaawa din si Pangulo kahit anong gawin niyang kabutihan laging may masamang nakikita.”

Arenas said the controversial P1-million dinner by the President’s entourage at Le Cirque, a popular posh restaurant in New York City, was actually arranged and paid for, not by Rep. Martin Romualdez, but by his brother, an architect.

She added, “I’ve known Congressman Martin Romualdez and maybe that’s the way they live but who are we to judge?”

She urged the public not to waste their time on negative things, but instead focus on the accomplishments of the President.

“If only they see our hectic itinerary, the good things the President accomplished, they will realize how workaholic our present President is,” she said. #
