SAN CARLOS CITY —”The area of downfall compared to the area of ups of life is relatively small.”

Motivated by this mantra in life, Rohonesty Cabuay overcame poverty and a kidney failure illness to become among those who recently passed the licensure board examination for Civil Engineers.

The family of Cabuay, the eldest in a brood of six, faced difficulties sustaining the family’s needs from their father’ meager income as a truck driver.

Cabuay diligently pursued his studies, graduating valedictorian from St. Charles Academy here for his secondary education then pursued a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Course at the Technological Institute of the Philippines in Quezon City.

In college, he was a consistent dean’s lister but on his last semester in November 2006, he was diagnosed to have kidney failure and needed a transplant.

Failing to raise enough money for a transplant operation, his family decided to take on their last recourse – sell their home to save Rohonesty’s life.

With the P800,000 raised from the sale, Cabuay received kidney transplant donated by his younger sister, Roshigirlie.

After the successful operation, Cabuay worked for a construction firm, and kept his eye on obtaining a license And he earned it this year.

“It was very fulfilling. All the sacrifices of my parents and other people who helped us had their return when I passed the board exam,” Cabuay told The PUNCH.

Now, as a licensed civil engineer, Cabuay is determined to uplift his family’s financial situation as a way of repaying their sacrifices for him.

Cabuay also keeps the faith that God is behind him as he pursues a greater purpose in life.#
