SISON–A Taiwan-based charitable institution, Aihu Foundation Inc., has sponsored a program to promote computer literacy among adults here on wheels.

Some 350 adults had their graduation rites on Tuesday after completing the program “Computer Van Aralan” which Aihu, undertook in cooperation with the Sison municipal government and the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Ambassador Donald C.T. Lee, representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECU) in Manila, was the keynote speaker during the event attended by Vice Governor Marlyn Primicias and Provincial Board Member Danilo Uy.

The municipal government here led by Mayor Kimi Cojuangco thanked Aihu for the initiative that benefited the town’s working adults.

“It is very interesting because in other towns, they send children (as trainees). But here, the ones that were eager to learn were the adults, mostly teachers, engineers and young people,” Cojuangco said.

Aihu Foundation (Aihu means “I care”), owns a van which serves as a roving classroom equipped with computers and other teaching tools.

The van is sent to different municipalities, lasting about two to three weeks in one location.

The van stayed in Sison for three months to train four batches who availed of the free computer literacy training that included employees of the municipal government.

The only qualifications required are knowledge of reading and writing.

Aihu Foundation’s next stop is Ilocos Sur.—LM
