Sta. Barbara’s feed and read program gets more support
STA. BARBARA—The “Feed and Read to Lead” program, initiated by the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1976 and organized by the local police municipal government here, continues to get support from various sectors.
In the most recent session held May 23, JC Hardware, a dealer of construction materials, co-hosted the program participated in by 400 children from various barangays.
JC Hardware owners, the husband and wife team of Joel and Cristy Chan, helped organize the program in coordination with the locally-based Christ our Life Ministries.
The “Feed and Read to Lead” program, aimed at promoting the love for reading among children, combined with supplemental feeding, is part of the 10-point progress agenda of Mayor Reynaldo Velasco.
It includes the reading on the lives and achievements of heroes from Sta. Barbara, among them the late Senator Daniel Maramba and World War II heroes, 2Lt Cornelio Bustillo and 1Lt Ernesto Roy.
“This program is a contribution to the requirements of the PNP (Philippine National Police) Integrated Transformation Program (ITP) seeking to empower the citizenry”, Poserio said.
Award winning lady cop, PO3 Ruth Poserio and PO1 Soledad Sergote led the May 23 reading session for the children who graduated from a six-day values enhancement program.
P/Supt. Eric Noble, the town police chief, acknowledged the support extended to the project by PMA “Magilas” Class of 1976, the Association of Community Educators, Teachers and Administrators led by Benjo Carganilla; Community Health Educators led by Felomina Montemayor; Eagles Nest Christian Academy led by its administrator Sheryl Lyn Ramos; Biskeg Tuliao led by Romy Calunan; and the locally-based Rotary Club headed by Alex Beguas.
