Ranjit: “I shall return”
It was Ranjit’s turn to say “I shall return”.
Ranjit Ramos-Shahani, former vice governor in 1992 to 1995 and later a two-term representative of the 6th District, announced he is making a comeback in politics in 2010.
“I want to come back to help,” he said in Ilocano during a press conference.
Shahani, son of former Senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani and nephew of former President Fidel Ramos, said he has the blessings of both his mother and uncle for his plans.
SHAHANI
The now 47-year old Shahani has moist eyes for the vice governor post again.
“I just would like to make the lives of Pangasinenses more enriched in terms of the quality of their lives so that one day our country will be truly great spearheaded by the province of Pangasinan,” he said.
At 28 then, he was noted for being an eloquent speaker but he was also criticized for being perennially late for his appointments and meetings.
Clearly intent on improving his image, he surprised the local media by arriving at his press conference an hour ahead of schedule.
Admitting to his “juvenile behavior” when he was elected as the youngest vice governor of Pangasinan ever in 1992, Shahani said he has matured as a person and is now ready to go back to work in service to the people of Pangasinan.
Among the priority projects that he said he will work for is the irrigation component of the San Roque Multi-Purpose Project.
ESPINO
PARTNER?
Ranjit is hoping to be the partner of Governor Amado Espino Jr. who is expected to run for a re-election.
“But I do not dictate unto him because he is the governor Of course I respect the governor’s decision,” he added.
Espino was the provincial police director when Shahani was also in public service and they handled several projects together such as the staging of the Palarong Pambansa in Pangasinan.—LM
